The University of Abuja has urgently appealed to members of the public, students, and security agencies to help locate a 100-level undergraduate who disappeared under worrying circumstances earlier this week, sparking anxiety among classmates and family.

The missing student has been identified as Sadiya Usman, a first-year Accounting student. According to the university’s official statement, Sadiya left her residence in Kontagora Estate, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory on the morning of Tuesday, February 18, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., heading to the school’s main campus to sit for her GST 111 computer-based test (CBT).

She was expected to arrive on campus before her exam, but never showed up, and efforts to reach her by phone have been unsuccessful. Her phone line has remained unreachable since she left, fueling concern that something may have happened to her while she was en route.

The university’s management, through the Directorate of Safety and Security, confirmed that they are working closely with relevant authorities and have activated internal safety protocols to aid the search. Contact details for the school’s security unit and local police stations have been shared publicly to encourage anyone with information to come forward without delay.

Family members and classmates have reportedly been distraught, describing Sadiya as a diligent and respectful student who would not ordinarily be out of contact without explanation. Her sudden disappearance has drawn widespread concern, both within the academic community and beyond.

Authorities reiterated that student safety remains a top priority and appealed to the public not to spread unverified rumours, but to report any credible leads  no matter how small  that could assist in locating Sadiya. They urged commuters, residents, commercial motorcycle riders, and app-based drivers who ply routes between Kontagora Estate and the University campus to be particularly attentive, as any sighting of the missing student could be critical.

As the search continues, there has been an outpouring of support on social media from concerned Nigerians, with many sharing images and details of the missing student to widen the search net. The university has pledged to provide regular updates and urged calm while investigations are ongoing.

For now, family members, friends, and the broader University of Abuja community are united in hope  praying that Sadiya is found safe and swiftly returned to her loved ones.
